Description
The expression, “I was on the edge of my seat,” is an apt description of this crazy little stool. Have you ever been so involved with your work that you lose track of time and space? You look down, and you are literally perched on the edge of your seat? Sitting on this chair allows that, but comfortably. You can feel the sensation of balancing. Sitting on the stool helps increase creativity and focus. It has been shown that when our balance ‘sensors’ are activated, it helps promote Flow States; Flow states have been shown to increase creative problem solving by 5X in one study; more in others.
It takes discipline, this certainly is not another lounge chair masquerading as an office accessory. It is a task stool that requires some core strength, and a will to maintain good posture. I sit on mine all day when I’m at my desk, but when I am feeling super lazy or sick, I take the laptop to the couch.
I’ve been perfecting the design of this thing for a few years, and testing as long. It is very robust, and ready for action.
The seat is leather, the structural components are high strength aluminum. I mold the knobs and the carbon fiber covers by hand in a mold that I also hand polished. I 3D print some internal components, while others are laser cut aluminum. The “paint” on the base is resin. It is beautiful, and shows great depth. I was concerned that it would be scratched easily, but I sat on one version for a year as my primary CAD seat (probly about 1500 hours). It does not show muchwear, and is still quite brilliant. I 3D printed the mold, made a silicone mold from that, and hand pour the resin; each pour takes 24 hours to set properly.
